PHUKET - An Australian woman died after being knifed on Wednesday night during an attempted bag-snatch by two men on a motorcycle, police said.

The woman was identified as Michelle Smith, 60, a member of a group of travel agents visiting Phuket to inspect a five-star resort.

The attack occurred about 10.30pm when Smith and her friend, Lynn Tammee Lee, were walking back to their hotel after having dinner.

Lee, who suffered a slash wound to her right arm during the attack, told police that the two men, aged about 18 to 25, drove past them twice before one of them tried to snatch Smith's bag.

As Smith struggled to hold on to the bag one of the men stabbed her in the chest. She was pierced through the heart and died at the scene.

The motorcycle pair fled empty handed.

    Police were tracking them down.

    Two arrested for Phuket murder

Police have arrested two suspects wanted for the murder of an Australian travel agent and wounding her travelling companion in Phuket on Wednesday night.

National police chief Pol Gen Priewpan Damapong said yesterday Surasak Suwannachote, 26, the suspected killer, was in custody in Chumphon province while Surin Tapthong, 37, who allegedly helped him to flee, was arrested at Ban Phaeo district of Samut Sakhon.

The suspects were taken to Phuket yesterday evening.

Michelle Smith, a 60-year-old travel agent from Perth, and her friend Lynn Tammee Lee, also Australian, were walking back to their hotel in the Karon area around 10.30pm on Wednesday after eating at a restaurant when they were attacked by two bag-snatchers on a motorcycle.

Police say Surasak Suwannachote, 26, (left) killed Michelle Smith, while Surin Tapthong, 37, drove the motorcycle. (Police handout photo)
As Smith struggled to hold on to her bag, one of the men stabbed her in the chest. She walked away and then collapsed and died a short time later.

    The motorcycle pair fled empty-handed.

Pol Gen Priewpan said police traced the suspects to Chian Yai district, Nakhon Si Thammarat, Mr Surasak's home town.

Officers realised Mr Surasak had actually fled to Chumphon and Mr Surin sought shelter in his home town of Samut Sakhon.

Phuket police chief Chonsit Wattanawarangkul said investigators obtained information from a witness saying Mr Surin phoned him to say he had stabbed a foreigner.

The suspect allegedly told the witness that he initially thought the victim was only injured because she had walked away to seek help.

He fled the island after learning the victim had later died.

Police inspected surveillance camera footage from the eatery to identify the suspects.

Police have charged the suspects with plotting to rob and kill others and carrying weapons in a public area.

Pol Gen Priewpan said the suspects have been arrested in drug cases before.

Woman's killers 'needed to pay their bar bill'
Published: 26/06/2012 at 06:36 PM Online news: Crimes 0
    Share
PHUKET - The two men accused of the street murder of an Australian travel agent last week have confessed to the crime and said they tried to steal her bag because they needed 300 baht to pay an outstanding bar bill.

The stabber, Surasak Suwannachote, 26, and the motorcycle driver, Surin Thapthong, 36, on Tuesday morning re-enacted the crime outside the Katathani Hotel in Phuket. They were arrested on Monday.

Pol Gen Pansiri Prapawat, the deputy national police chief, announced the outcome of the manhunt at a press briefing on Tuesday morning.

He said the two attackers told investigators that they had no intention of killing Michelle Smith, a 60-year-old mother of three from Perth who was part of a group of travel agents visiting the resort island.

Police say Surasak Suwannachote, 26, (left) killed Michelle Smith, while Surin Tapthong, 37, drove the motorcycle. (Police handout photo)

"I admit that I committed the crime, but my intention was only to cut the strap of the woman's handbag because I owed a bar 300 baht for drinks," Surasak said. "I did not want her to die."

Surasak said that at the time he did not think Smith would die because she and her friend were asking for help from people nearby.

He found out only later that the Australian woman was dead, after he arrived home and watched the news on TV. He then decided to flee and hide in Nakhon Si Thammarat.

The deputy police chief said both men, particularly Surin, had long criminal records. Surin had been convicted of robbery four times and had served three years in jail for a drug offence.

"Police will create a database of tourist destinations, routes and checkpoints and more CCTV cameras will be set up to ensure the safety of tourists," Pol Gen Pansiri said.

Last Wednesday, Smith and her work colleague Lynn Tammee Lee, also Australian, were walking back to their hotel in Karon around 10.30pm after eating at a restaurant. They were attacked by two bag snatchers on a motorcycle.

As Smith struggled to hold on to her bag, one of the men stabbed her in the chest. The two women walked off and then Smith collapsed a short distance away and died at the scene. The motorcycle thugs fled empty handed.

B230m drug bust in Samut Prakan
Published: 5/07/2012 at 01:04 PM Online news: 0
    Share
SAMUT PRAKAN - Police have arrested five suspects and seized one million methamphetamine pills, or yaba, and 10 kilogrammes of crystal methamphetamine, known as ice, Narcotics Suppression Bureau chief Chaiwat Chotima said on Thursday.

Pol Lt-Gen Chaiwat said the drugs, worth more than 230 million baht in total, were hidden in a truck, a car and a pickup.

The five suspects, three men and two women, were trying smuggle yaba and ice from Chiang Mai into Chon Buri, he said.

The suspects told investigators that they were paid 30,000 baht to deliver the drugs and that they had done this twice.

Pol Lt-Gen Chaiwat said the bureau's vehicles equipped with x-ray machines are not able to probe the interior of large vehicles.

The scanner can only be used on small vehicles, he added.

Meanwhile, police in Nonthaburi found three bags containing about 100,000 yaba pills on a street outside a village.

Officers were checking the footage of a close circuit television camera, looking for witnesses and collecting fingerprints from the bags.

Police believed the area where the bags were discovered was a meeting point for the drug dealers.

Five anti-drug officers killed in Yala car bomb
Police think attack was to avenge key arrests
Published: 26/07/2012 at 08:03 AM Newspaper section: News
YALA : Five policemen were killed by a car bomb in Raman district Wednesday, in an attack which authorities believe was in retaliation for recent drug suspect arrests.
    http://www.bangkokpost.com/media/con...726/410068.jpg

Police inspect the wreckage of a pickup truck in which abombwas planted, after its explosion killed five police officers travelling in another pickup truck in Ban Buke Yaera in Yala’s Ramandistrict. MUHAMMADAYUB PATHAN

The bomb exploded Wednesday afternoon as a pickup truck, carrying six drug suppression officers led by Pol Lt Sutham Onthong, was approaching a canal by the Wang Phaya-U Po road in Ban Buke Yaera, police said.

The blast killed Pol Lt Sutham and four of his subordinates _ Pol Snr Sgt Maj Waeuseng Waedeng, Pol Snr Sgt Maj Chakkrit Chaisali, Pol Sgt Natthaphong Bunkomon and Pol Sgt Wichanon Namphakdi.

The force of the explosion hurled the pickup truck into the canal.

Another officer, Pol Sgt Prasoet Rotkun, was seriously injured.

According to investigators, the bomb was hidden in a 50-kg gas cylinder placed in a stolen pickup parked near the canal. They also found spent cartridges left by the attackers who sprayed bullets at the victims following the explosion.

They made off with the officers' hand guns and M16 and HK assault rifles, police said.

Investigators believe the bombing was carried out by a group of insurgents and suspected bomb maker, Phaisol Hayisamaae, a cousin of Sobri Hayisamaae who was recently arrested by police on drug changes.

Mr Sobri and another man in police custody, Aliya Waekalisong, are accused of drug trafficking in Raman district.

Police suspect Wednesday's bombing was in reprisal for their arrest.

In Narathiwat, army chief Prayuth Chan-ocha apologised to residents in Sungai Kolok district Wednesday for the army's failure to prevent the bomb attack which wounded eight people on Friday.

Gen Prayuth said during a visit to Sungai Kolok that he accepts sole responsibility for the attack and vowed to improve security.

Early last month, he told security forces to be on alert for possible attacks during the Muslim fasting month of Ramadan. The Sungai Kolok blast occurred on the first day.

The bomb, packed in a gas cylinder in a stolen pickup truck, exploded in front of Pro Computer and OA Thailand Co, an electronics retailer, setting the company building and nearby homes ablaze. After returning to Bangkok Wednesday, Gen Prayuth promised to put in a request for 30,000 surveillance cameras to be installed in insurgent-plagued areas, including Sungai Kolok district.

The cameras may help ease pressure on soldiers who have to patrol these areas day and night, he said.

In a separate development, police seized 200,000 methamphetamine pills and arrested seven suspected traffickers in separate busts in Bangkok and Yala.

Kanchit Kamfaeng, 29, Sirichai Kanongsilp, 34, Suchart Phuengkong, 49, Saravoot Lohprasit, 29, and Jessada Rodkul, 21, were arrested with 176,013 methamphetamine pills and 510.8 grammes of crystal methamphetamine or "ice" in a Bangkok suburb on Tuesday.

Pol Maj Gen Surapol Thuanthong, deputy commissioner of the Narcotics Suppression Bureau, said the suspects were small-time traffickers who kept the drugs and delivered them to peddlers in the Bang Chak area of Bangkok. They allegedly earned 5,000 baht per delivery.

In the southern province of Yala, police arrested Sobri Hayisama-ae and Aliya Yaekalisong, both 25, with 39,200 methamphetamine pills, a shotgun and an assault rifle in their possession on Monday.

Both suspects are from tambon Noen Ngam of Raman district. Mr Sobri is a cousin of Faisal Hayisama-ae, who is suspected of carrying out bomb attacks at many locations in the far South, including at Hat Yai airport in 2005.

    Two rangers killed in Narathiwat
Published: 30/07/2012 at 08:07 PM Online news:
Two Muslim rangers were killed in a drive-by shooting in Narathiwat’s Cho Airong district on Monday evening, raising the death toll from insurgent attacks during the fasting month of Ramadan to 11.

The two were identified as Cpl Abdulrawning Sawa and a para-military ranger Sareenee Ma, who were members of the 48 Rangers Regiment, said Pol Col Prayong Kotesakha, chief of Cho Airong police station.

Witnesses told police that the victims were travelling on a motorcycle in Moo 12 in tambon Bukit, when a gunman riding pillion on another motorcycle shot each of them in the head with a pistol, seriously injuring them. The attackers then fled.

The rangers were taken to Narathiwat Ratchanakarin hospital and were later pronounced dead.

    Police blamed separatist militants.

The ambush occurred in front of a mosque where the rangers attended a Ramadan evening prayer and left to buy food for their fellow Muslim soldiers during the holy fasting month of Ramadan that began on July 20.

At least 23 violent incidents have taken place in the deep South since Ramadan began on July 20. Monday’s killings have raised the Ramadan death toll to 11 after five policemen were killed in a car bomb attack in Yala and four soldiers were slain in a drive-by shooting last week.

    Belgische crimineel opgepakt in Thailand

    Most wanted

    In stilte

Belg sterft in badkamer in Thailand

    13 augustus 2012, 16:32

    Online fraudster arrested
Published: 20/08/2012 at 06:12 PM Online news: Local News
Bangkok police have arrested a 33-year-old married man believed to have conned more than 100 women of their valuables over three years and sleeping with some of them.

Metropolitan police chief Lt Gen Kamronwit Thoopkrachang, accompanied by his deputy Maj Gen Pisit Pisutsak, on Monday morning announced the arrest of Chakorn "Ohm" Boonchern, 33. He was wanted on five arrest warrants issued across the country.

Pol Maj Gen Pisit said police received many complaints from women about the suspect but it took more than three months to nab him because he was devious and sharp-witted. He was arrested at a flat in Lad Phrao on Sunday, Aug 19.

According to many complaints, Ohm met his victims through social media websites. After getting acquainted with them he would persuade them to meet him in person.

The victims told police that the man would then look for a chance to steal their valuables, including cash and ATM cards. Some women said he had raped or otherwise sexually assaulted them. The suspect denied this, saying they were acts of consent.

"I admit that I've slept with about 15 women but I've never committed rape. I came up with my own methods of conning people and I didn't copy anyone.

"I have a wife and a child and they cost me 15,000 baht a month. I was an employee of a company and worked in a restaurant before, but I haven't worked for three years," Ohm said.

One of his victims, whose name was withheld, told police that she met Ohm through a well-known social media website.

"I was deceived when he posted a message saying he would commit suicide because he was heart broken and had a congenital disease. I tried to comfort him and talked with him on the internet and telephone for about a week.

"He then told me that he wanted to see me to thank me for supporting him. He also told me that he was a son of a famous politician and his parents also wanted to see me.

"When I met him, he told me to take a facial scrub because his parents are well-respected people and he didn't want me to look bad. While I was taking a facial scrub [at a salon], he took my purse along with 1,000 baht in cash, an ATM card and a notebook computer," the victim said.

She said she could no longer contact Ohm after that day and admitted that he had an appealing personality.

"Today, I see him arrested but I don't want to talk much. I just want to slap him," she said.

Another victim, whose name was also withheld, said she was conned in a similar manner and she was so furious that she had set up a Facebook page called "Hunting Ohm" (http://www.facebook.com/omehunter).

On the "Hunting Ohm" page, many other victims posted messages explaining how they were conned by Ohm.

Police alleged Ohm had no job and supported himself by deceiving others and stealing their valuables for about three years.

The suspect was very careful and changed his accommodation every week to escape his victims and police.

A total of 136 items, such as purses, handbags, identification cards, credit cards, ATM cards, cell phones, laptop computers and other documents belong to his victims, were found in his room during the arrest, police said.

Kiwi killed by Swede in Pattaya bar
Published: 21/08/2012 at 05:27 PM Online news:
CHON BURI - A New Zealand man was stabbed to death by a Swedish man in a bar in Pattaya in a jealous quarrel after the suspect's girlfriend patted the victim's pet dog, reports said on Tuesday.

Police said they received a report about 2am Tuesday that a foreigner had been killed in a bar.

Robert E Hollick, 43, from New Zealand was stabbed three times at his neck and back. He was pronounced dead at a hospital.

Police arrested and charged a Swedish man, Andreas Ringvall, 40, with murdering Hollick.

Mr Ringvall and his girlfriend, Dao Pholutsa, 26, were captured by local people after the stabbing and were handed over to police.

Mr Ringvall's girlfriend told police that Hollick started the fight. She said they tried to back off but Hollick continued to attack her boyfriend so he had to fight back.

Witnesses, however, told police a different story. They said Mr Ringvall had started a quarrel with Hollick after Ms Dao played with Hollick's pet dog inside the bar.

Mr Ringvall sent his girlfriend back to his room, then he returned to the bar and attacked Hollick with a knife, witnesses said.

    Police were investigating.

The New Zealand news website stuff.co.nz reported that Hollick was the founder and owner of a recruitment company, Top Dog Personnel, in Perth, Australia. It specialises in finding earthmoving workers for West Australia's mining and civil construction industries.

Hollick was semi-retired and had been living in Pattaya for some time, the stuff report said.

Russian women falls from 5th floor condo balcony in South Pattaya
    27th August 2012
A 35 year old Russian reportedly jumped from a 5th floor condo in South Pattaya, following a late night argument with her Russian Boyfriend. Police and rescue services were called to The Lofts Pratamnuk Condominium and attended to Miss Irina Sugak. She was lying on the ground, underneath the 5th floor condo where she was staying with her boyfriend and had sustained two broken legs. She was rushed to the Pattaya Memorial Hospital where Police were told that she was drinking with friends earlier in the evening when a fight began with her boyfriend. It is thought that a combination of excessive drinking and raw emotions amplified by the alcohol led her to throw herself off the balcony. Police have yet to confirm if she did indeed jump or not and are waiting to speak with her at this time. The boyfriend, who refused to give his name, is also being questioned by Police but seems to confirm the story given by friends who were with the pair earlier in the evening.

Police have arrested two suspects over the armed robbery of two women walking in Bangkok in the early hours of Monday morning, reports said.

Police said Lamit Thamsing, 34, and Phasuk Nuseng, 30, reported they noticed they were being followed by about 10 motorcyclists as they walked near Kaset-Navamin intersection at about 3am.

One of the gang members drew up alongside them, brandished a gun and snatched a purse holding about 10,000 baht in cash from one of them.

About two hours later, police found two teenagers trying to steal a motorcycle. Police believed the two youngsters, aged 15 and 16, were part of the gang that robbed the women.

Police were in the process of arresting other gang members and would call in the victims to identify their attackers, the reports said.

    DEET in drinks killed sisters
Published: 1/09/2012 at 09:01 PM Online news: Local News
The deaths of two Canadian sisters on Koh Phi Phi in June were caused by the insect repellent DEET in their drinks, according to Canadian media reports.

Noemi (left) and Audrey Belanger were found dead in their room on June 15.
Results of the autopsy at a Bangkok hospital have not been publicly released, but they were shown to reporters for Radio-Canada, the French-language news network of the Canadian Broadcasting Corp.

According to the report, 20-year-old Audrey Belanger and her sister Noemi, 25, had DEET (diethyl-meta-toluamide) in their bodies.

Though the chemical is a potentially neurotoxic mosquito repellent, it is sometimes used as an ingredient to add an extra kick to a euphoria-inducing cocktail that is popular among young people in Thailand.

The cocktail known locally as 4x100 contains cough syrup, cola, ground-up kratom leaves, which are a mild narcotic, and ice.

It is thought that an overdose of DEET was accidentally mixed into the young women's drinks.

Large plastic buckets filled with different drink ingredients that are sipped through a straw are popular with Phi Phi partiers, who carry the buckets from place to place.

The sisters from Pohenegamook, Quebec had just arrived on Phi Phi and were last seen partying with two Brazilian friends in the early morning of June 13.

Forty-eight hours later, when staff at their hotel hadn't seen them emerge from their room, a receptionist called police.

The sisters were found dead in their room, and it was speculated that poisoning, probably accidental, played a role. Police said they found no signs of foul play.

However, officers did find a lot of vomit in the room and there was blood on the young women's faces, leading investigators to say early on that the women may have suffered some kind of toxic reaction.

Another autopsy is supposed to take place in Montreal, but final results from that are expected to take months.

In 2009, two young tourists, one from the United States and the other from Norway, who were staying at a nearby guest house on Phi Phi also died under mysterious circumstances.

Their deaths remain unsolved, but there was speculation the women had been poisoned.

Security officers inspect the scene of a carbombattack at a municipality-run marketin Pattani’sSai Buri district. Six people were killed and 50 others, including police, defence volunteers, and civilians, were woundedwhenthe car bombexploded yesterday. ABDULLOH BENJAKAT

The blast went off about 12.30 pm in the compound of Taluban municipality market in Sai Buri district. Several shophouses caught fire.

The bomb killed six people, two who died instantly at the scene, and wounded almost 50 people, including police, defence volunteers and civilians. Of the injured, 10 were seriously wounded.

The bomb, hidden in a black Chevrolet sedan with fake licence plates, went off when a team of police and defence volunteers were lured to Kamolphan gold shop, opposite a motorcycle repair shop where the car containing the bomb was parked.

The officers went to the gold shop after being alerted by a phone call that an unknown number of armed men had earlier opened fire on the shop, which was only 100 metres from the police station.

The explosion caused damage to several shophouses. Many cars and motorcyles caught fire.

The six dead victims were identified as Worawut Sunthorn, 45, a food vendor; Ariya Saman, 19, a student at an Islamic school; defence volunteer Wichai Sakonthawut, 54; Paisarn Chanthanasap, 54, owner of the motorcycle shop; Saowapa Praditneesilapa, 55, a vendor; and Prapin Kaewthong, a fruit vendor.

Among some 50 injured victims were Pol Col Arzis Umayee, chief of Sai Buri police; Pol Lt Col Pattanapong Thongduang, deputy Sai Buri police chief; Pol Capt Abdul-amid Bueraheng, suppression police inspector, non-commissioned police and civilians.

Army chief Prayuth Chan-ocha admitted violence still existed in the far South even if a group of 93 southern rebels recently turned themselves to authorities as there were several groups of insurgents. Speaking after his return from Indonesia, the army chief said he had discussed the southern violence with his Indonesian counterpart.

He quoted the Indonesian army chief of staff Gen Pramono Edhie Wibowo as saying that Thailand was on the right track to solve the unrest.

He maintained he would give justice to insurgents who surrendered and to victims of southern unrest.

Gen Prayuth said insurgents involved in minor offences such as strewing metal spikes on roads may not face punishment.

However, those involved in serious offences such as killings would not escape legal action.

Court turns down Supat bail request
Published: 25/09/2012 at 02:16 AM Newspaper section: News
Murder suspect Supat Laohawattana, who is accused of killing up to four people, was denied bail by Phetchaburi Provincial Court yesterday.

Tha Mai Ruak police officers yesterday bring murder suspect Pol Col Supat Laohawattana to Phetchaburi Provincial Court to remand him in custody. TAWATCHAI KEMGUMNERD

According to the court's reading, Pol Col Supat was not granted bail as he is a senior police officer who could flee and threaten witnesses.

Pol Col Supat is accused of murdering couple Samart Noomjui and Orasa Kerdsap, who had been missing since 2009.

One of Pol Col Supat's former employees has also accused him of killing two Myanmar workers at his 40-rai pineapple orchard in Phetchaburi's Tha Yang district.

Three skeletons dug up by police at Pol Col Supat's orchard are being examined at Central Institute of Forensic Science Thailand.

Two of the skeletons were identified as males, said Pol Lt Gen Jaramporn Suramanee, assistant commissioner general of Thai Royal Police, adding that the gender of the third skeleton would be confirmed within the next couple of days. He said two of the skeletons showed signs of having been shot, and added that DNA tests are being conducted to help identify them.

However, Pol Col Supat's solicitor Polthep Suwanwichian said his client, a Police General Hospital doctor, had been framed. He said Pol Col Supat and his brother had been in a legal dispute over who would look after their 89-year-old mother, Thanim Laohawattana.

Mr Polthep said Mrs Thanim has assets worth about 5 billion baht.

She has been seriously ill and bed-ridden for about 10 years, he said.

Pol Col Supat said briefly before he was sent to Phetchaburi Central Prison that he had denied the murder charges laid against him.

He also denied an allegation by a family member that he had drugged his mother into an incapacitated state, so he could take over the management of her assets.

No one wants their mother to suffer with any illness, he said.

Pol Lt Gen Jongjate Aojanepong, director of the police hospital, said Pol Col Supat has been admired for his contribution as a doctor over 25 years.

He admitted Pol Col Supat had once come to talk to him about the conflicts with his brother over the management of their mother's assets and their inheritance.

According to a police source, the suspect's wife, Wilasa Janbanchorn, has contacted police to turn herself in. She is accused of cooperating with Pol Col Supat's alleged crimes. No date or time was given for her surrender.

Tha Mai Ruak police yesterday handed in to Provincial Police Region 7, more than 40 handguns and rifles seized at the suspect's house.

The weapons will be forensically analysed to determine whether any of them had been used in the murders.

The weapons investigation is expected to be finalised within a week, police said.

    Koh Phangan rape suspect arrested
Published: 2/10/2012 at 08:05 PM Online news: Crimes
Surat Thani police have arrested a Myanmar man in connection with an attempted rape on an Israeli woman on the tourist island of Koh Phangan on Monday.

The man was identified only as Bo, 25, a trash collector at Tommy Resort, which is located not far from where the rape took place, Pol Col Witthaya Wangsadarn, chief of the Koh Phangan police station, said on Tuesday.

The arrest came after a tip-off from the hotel’s owner, who suspected his employee of attacking Ms Havory (surname withheld), a 23-year-old Israeli tourist, he said.

Police found scratches on his chest and neck, and seized a blood-stained black T-shirt from his room as evidence. Mr Bo wore the same black T-shirt at the time of the incident, Pol Col Witthaya said.

He allegedly confessed to police that he tried to rape Ms Havory when she was walking alone on the beach by the hotel’s swimming pool on Monday morning.

Ms Havory told police on Monday that she attended a full moon party on the island with friends until about 3.30am before they separated.

The woman said she was walking along the beach when a man, age 30-35, attacked her and tried to rape her.

She said she bit his lip when he tried to kiss her and punched him in the stomach as she made her escape.

Tourists in the area found the woman and took her to a clinic on the island, after which she was put on a speed boat to Koh Samui for treatment.

Ms Havory reportedly returned to Israel from Koh Samui on Monday night.

     Veelpleger van mastrubatie gezocht

PHUKET: -- Phuket City Police are now searching for a man wanted for sexually harassing restaurant staff in Phuket Town after he exposed himself and masturbated in front of them four times in three days.

“We launched a search for him last night, but we have yet to find him. Our officers have been alerted to the car’s license plate number and have been searching areas around night entertainment venues,” Phuket City Police Superintendent Sermphan Sirikong told the Phuket Gazette today.

“We have caught a few people, parked along the bypass road, who were masturbating in their vehicles, but none of them were the man we are looking for,” he added.

The news follows a restaurant owner in Phuket Town making a public appeal yesterday for people to beware of a man who has repeatedly exposed himself in front of her Burmese staff and masturbated in front of them.

“It started on September 9, while we were preparing to close the restaurant. He pulled up in his car in front of the restaurant, opened the driver’s side window and started masturbating,” the restaurant owner told the Phuket Press Club yesterday.

There were two incidents involving the man masturbating in front of staff on September 10, she said.

“One of those times, he walked up to one of my staff members, pulled out his ‘thing’ and started masturbating right in front of her. When the staff member saw what he was doing and screamed, he ran back to his car and sped off,” she explained.

Staff at the restaurant described the masturbator as a well-dressed, good-looking Thai man in his 30s, driving a car fitted with Bangkok license plates bearing the number 7346.

The last time the man approached the restaurant was on September 11.

“My female workers were preparing to open the restaurant. According to the clock on our CCTV camera, he knocked on the door at 4:17am and asked if he could use our restroom, but then he pulled out his penis and started masturbating while still standing in the doorway,” the restaurant owner said.

“He had no clue he was caught by our CCTV,” she added.

One of the restaurateur’s Burmese staff members reported the man saying, “Don’t be afraid. Come with me, I will give you 500 baht.”

“He begged my workers to open the door. He said all this while still masturbating,” said the restaurateur.

“At 4:24am, my mother came back from the market. He saw her and then jumped in his car, which was still running, and drove away. That was the last time we saw him. I uploaded the CCTV photo onto my Facebook page that same day,” she added.

The restaurant owner said she had reported the incidents to Phuket City Police, but her complaint was not accepted, prompting her to give a public warning yesterday.

“We want the media to publish this man’s picture to warn women in Phuket to beware of him,” she said.

“I would also like employers who have female workers to watch out for him. We never know where he might turn up next,” she added

Sen Sgt Maj Suwit Yimsong, from the Phuket City Police radio room, said he could find no record of the restaurant owner filing a complaint.

“I was [previously] unaware of this issue, and I had not received any reports of similar disturbances from any other police stations in Phuket.

“Perhaps there was a misunderstanding. Police will investigate this, but they need the person who has been offended by the public indecency to file the complaint. Someone else cannot file a complaint like this on their behalf,” he explained.

Chalong Police told the Gazette that they, too, were unaware of the man’s antics. They have yet to determine whether or not he matches the description of either of the two men reported masturbating by the side of the road between Patong and Karon on August 19.
